15.5 Predictions

This chapter, and thus the text, concludes with some predictions as to what the future of computing holds. These predictions are organized into two categories: near term predictions, which the author thinks are likely to occur within the next 10 to 15 years – say by 2030, and longer term predictions which the author expects to take place by the midpoint of the 21stcentury (2050). Before diving into these predictions, we will first take a look at some past predictions that attempted to divine what life would be like in the first and second decades of the 21st century to see what past prognosticators got right and what they got wrong about our present.
